Access Discount Program
The Basics Access Discount program invites low-income community members to join the co-op for just $15, and to save 10% daily on most regular-priced items.
According to U.S. Census Bureau and other data, around 1 in 10 Rock County, WI residents is living in poverty or just above the poverty level and receives food and nutrition assistance. These residents now have access to this program at Basics to help them buy more natural, organic, and whole foods and nutritional supplements.
New Basics Co-op Owners who qualify for the program can make annual installment payments of $15 instead of $30, and the $5 administrative fee is also waived. They can then shop with a 10% daily discount on most regular-priced items.
After $150 total investment is made, all Co-op Owners are fully invested “lifetime” Owners of Basics and no more installments are due.
Eligibility:
To qualify for the Access Discount, one of the following criteria must apply to you:
- Recipient of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP/Wisconsin QUEST/IL Link)
- Recipient of Women, Infants & Children Program (WIC)
- Recipient of Medicaid
- Recipient of Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Recipient of Social Security Disability

See Customer Service to apply for a new Basics Co-op Access Ownership, or download the application to print, complete it at home, and bring it to the store. Signup is required in person.
Current Basics Co-op Owners must also complete a new Access Discount application and present it along with proof of program eligibility in person at Customer Service.
Basics is honored to provide increased access to natural and whole foods and nutritional supplements to thousands of low-income individuals in our area, through the Basics Co-op Access Discount program!
Additional Terms:
Discounts apply to regular-priced items only and exclude café, party platters and gift baskets/boxes, alcohol, and Ownership investments.
The Access Discount is connected to your Basics Co-op Owner account. Anyone who lives in your household (or is a caregiver shopping for you) is welcome to use the discount.
Reapplication for the program is required each year in January. You must present physical proof of your enrollment in one of the programs above, but we will not record your personal enrollment information.
Basics Co-op Ownership is not refundable until your total investment has reached at least $30.
These program terms are effective July 1, 2022. All other membership terms are in accordance with the Basics Bylaws.
