Vicki, featured Co-op Owner
My family joined the Co-op over a year ago. I shopped at Basics often, so it only made sense to become an Owner so I could enjoy the discounts and other benefits too!
I love the fact that shopping at Basics helps to support the community by offering local produce as well as supporting and contributing to local charitable foundations.
I feel that good quality food and good health go hand in hand. My husband has been fighting a late stage cancer diagnosis with a very grim prognosis. Through minimal conventional treatments and a clean diet and lifestyle, he has exceeded all expectations, and all of his tumors are now gone. I'm grateful for all the healthy, affordable options that Basics has offered us.
While I enjoy everything the Co-op has to offer, my favorite thing is the produce. We juice a lot, and Basics has great organic produce that is locally sourced whenever possible. It’s nice that they stock the large organic carrots, which I prefer to use for juicing. Other stores do not carry them consistently and I use 15 -20 lbs a week! I make 4-5 juices at a time and store them in 16oz mason jars.
Here's one of our favorite juice recipes:
Carrot Juice
6-8 large carrots
1 large granny smith apple
Approx 1 oz (thumbprint size) each of turmeric and ginger roots
Dash of pepper
1 tsp of cinnamon
We use a masticating juicer which I feel works better with the variety of produce that I use. Also, although it is debatable, I’ve heard that it helps to release more of the enzymes from fruit and vegetables making it a better, more nutritional choice especially if you are dealing with health issues.
