Basics Produce

The Basics Co-op Produce Department carries a variety of organically grown produce including fruits, vegetables, herbs and seasonal plants. We also take pride in offering as much locally grown produce as we are able to source, year round!

How do I know what is local?

When you visit the store, be sure to check the chalkboard just inside the front door- we update it weekly with this week’s locally grown availability, including pricing and the name and location of the farms who supplied each item this week.

localstickerAlso, look for the “L” sticker near price tags, denoting that an item was grown in Wisconsin. Produce grown in Iowa, Minnesota, Indiana, Illinois or Michigan is denoted with an “R” sticker (for Regional) near the price tag.

Organic Juice Bar

Also located in the Produce Department- fresh juice! Organic carrot juice and organic wheatgrass juice are made to order and available 8am-7pm Mondays through Saturdays, and 10am-5pm Sundays.

Seasonal Availability of Wisconsin Produce

The following is a chart that shows typical harvest seasons for Wisconsin-grown produce. In addition, Basics works with several farms and greenhouses to extend the local season when possible.
